In order to burn fat, you must use more calories than you consume. There are unhealthy ways and healthy ways to burn fat. You should never skip meals because your body will go into survival mode. This will cause your metabolism to slow down and eventually your body will not burn excess calories. Your body really burns more fat when you feed it 5-6 small portion meals throughout the day. One pound of fat consists of 3500 calories. If you can reduce your calorie intake by 500 calories a day, you will be able to lose about 1 pound per week. If you do not have much weight to lose then you should try for a half pound per week.

The best ways to burn fat is through exercise. There are several ways that you can maximize the amount of calories that you burn:

1. Cross-country running or skiing is one of the best calorie burners and both are good cardio exercise. We do not all have access to cross-country skiing but it is a really good exercise and the views can be terrific. The good thing about running is that it can be done in any location or on a treadmill for that matter. Make sure you have a good pair of running shoes. As you progress you can add hills, increase speed or longevity to increase the number of calories that are burned.

2. Spinning and Cycling
This is another exercise that can be done indoors or outdoors and also gives you a great cardio workout.

3. Kickboxing
This is one of the best cardio workouts. You can increase your intensity level and increase the amount of fat that is being burned.

4. Lifting weights
Lifting weights does not burn as much fact but it does put lean muscle tissue on your body better than any other exercise. When you have leans muscles you will burn more body fat.

If you have been a couch potato for a while, it is important that you talk with your doctor before starting a strenuous exercise program. You can always start out by walking and then increase to a more intense way of burning fat as your progress. Find a buddy to walk with and you will be amazed how quickly the time will go by and how fast you will see the body fat begin to melt away.
